A small surprise today at work. Brian, an engineer who has been with the company for about three years, announced he's leaving. Apparently he's going to move to California and work with this little company that makes some new kind of network equipment. ASDL or something like that. It's supposed to make home internet connections faster.
He told me that out there, even small houses can sell for half a million dollars and rent is often over a thousand dollars a month for a small apartment. I have no idea what could make that area "worth" so much. I had thought about going to California for a degree, but came to Chicago instead. It's expensive enough here; I can't easily picture California costing more.
Marcy called today and said that she thinks I need a date again. She's been reading this and is certain all my troubles will be solved by going out. At least, many of them. I'm less certain.
