I was at lunch today, at the Chinese place half a mile from work, when I remembered that I never told you about last night.
Sorry.
We went to see Yo-Yo Ma, and he was excellent. He played some things I didn't expect. Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin. Not the sort of thing you expect from a cellist. We all liked it. We went over to a place on State for dessert afterward and sat around talking about things. I really, really wanted to ask what happened between Daniel and Maureen on New Year's, but I didn't. I could almost sense that there was something going on between them, but there wasn't quite enough tangible signs that I felt comfortable asking.
At one point Mary-Therese and I were in the bathroom at the same time, and she sort of said something cryptic that makes me think she, too, thinks there's something going on there. Mary-Therese said, "well, their tongues aren't hanging out." She didn't say who she was referring to, but I had a pretty clear idea. I haven't asked Jennu what she thinks yet. She's getting more and more distracted by this engagement.
I dropped everyone back off at their places. Daniel was last, although I had half-expected him to ask to be let off at Maureen's. He didn't. He and I talked about Barry Tuckwell, a hornist who directs an orchestra in Maryland, my state of birth, who apparently was the inspiration for Daniel taking up horn playing. Tuckwell's retiring this year.
Today, the Mercedes-Benz didn't like starting, but it did. I need to find something on the internet about this car so that I understand what it wants when it complains like that. It doesn't seem to want much, but it's different from the Honda, something like how a steam car would be different from the Honda.
By the way, the check from the insurance company to pay for the destroyed Honda showed up, and it was far more than the cost of the Mercedes. That explains why I went out to lunch today. Big splurge at the Happy Wok.
